Skipnes Etikett AS, Norway’s largest label producer has added Ravenwood’s linerless technology to its product portfolio.
A Ravenwood Com500 Coater was installed at the company’s factory in Trondheim, Norway, in May of this year. Demand for linerless in Norway and Scandinavia is still emerging but rapidly gaining in popularity, mainly due to the cost saving and sustainability benefits.
Skipnes, is experiencing growing demand for linerless. The label converter currently has four linerless customers; producers of meat, fish and poultry. They predict that this figure will increase to ten customers by the end of the year. For many years, Skipnes has undertaken various initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint. The purchase of the Com500 coater is proving to be a sound investment and another step forward for increasing its carbon offsetting.
Geir Hagen, Skipnes Managing Director said: “We are delighted to now be able to offer linerless as a label option for our customers. We see linerless as fast becoming the label of choice for many food manufacturers. The Com500 is already running at full capacity.”
Hagen added: “We anticipate that our linerless customer base will continue to grow, and in order to meet the extra demand, there are plans to purchase a second Com500 coater in the future.”
The Com500 is designed and manufactured in the UK, and is the only coater dedicated to running Ravenwood linerless labels. Linerless labels feature much more surface space for information. Both the front and back of the label can be utilised, due to the absence of the backing paper. This also means zero liner to landfill. The cost and sustainability elements, benefit both printer and food manufacturer/producer.
Paul Beamish, Managing Director of Ravenwood said: “I am extremely happy to have Skipnes on board for producing our linerless technology. Their experience within the printing industry and related technologies spans over 50 years. I am looking forward to a great working relationship and seeing the linerless market grow further in Norway and Scandinavia overall.”
The sale of the coater is a milestone for Ravenwood which is in its 15th year of bringing turnkey linerless solutions to label printers around the world. The Skipnes machine is the 30th Com 500 to be installed. During these years, many improvements have been made with this fully upgradable system. Ravenwood Com 500 coaters produce billions of reliable linerless labels around the world every year, for application by thousands of Ravenwood Nobac applicators. The Ravenwood ‘Circle of Linerless’ gives customers a guaranteed label application system that outperforms conventional processes making it the world leader in primary linerless labels.
In addition to linerless, Skipnes Etikett AS produce self-adhesive labels and flexible packaging solutions for many industries and sectors.
