Ravenwood is now supporting Forest Carbon for UK woodland creation and is engaging in various initiatives for improved CO2 reduction across key areas of its business operations.
In recognition of the carbon impact of our business, we are investing in a UK woodland creation project, certified under the Woodland Carbon Code, for capturing and mitigating our carbon footprint. Our initial calculations were taken from September 2021 to September 2022 but will continue to be monitored on an annual basis. The growing trees will also provide wider co-benefits and these include flood alleviation, water quality improvements, habitat creation and to provide support to the woodland’s already established birds, wild animals and mammals.
Ravenwood’s new trees have been planted on the Lowther Estate in Cumbria. This extensive project will create a new predominantly coniferous mixed woodland. The scheme will link existing blocks of estate forestry for creating a new woodland corridor that joins the southern part of the property with established wood pasture in this historic park. Subsequently, by linking the existing blocks, the new planting will also assist to integrate the existing forests into the wider landscape, helping wildlife to thrive. Tree species include Birch, Hawthorn, Sycamore, Scots Pine, Oak and Cherry to name but a few.
Natalie Bell, Ravenwood’s Marketing and Events Manager said: “It feels good to know that all of the carbon we have emitted as a business in the last 12 months has and will continue to be mitigated with the tree planting scheme. And in doing so, we are also helping the UK to meet its long term international climate change targets.”
Ravenwood is also stepping up its efforts for climate action by monitoring and reducing CO2 emissions across key areas of the business. All three of Ravenwood’s sites now feature LED lighting and we are looking to add solar panels to these locations. We also have a growing fleet of hybrid and electric company vehicles as our conventional petrol and diesel cars are gradually being phased out. Furthermore, our linerless labelling technology is already considered highly sustainable and our range of machinery is UK built, boasting a low environmental impact.
We chose to partner with Forest Carbon for CO2 reduction and carbon capture as they are leaders in the field of UK woodland creation and peatland restoration projects. They have planted over 11 million new UK trees since 2006 with their partners, removing over 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. To date Forest Carbon and its partners have created 225 new woodlands and restored 5 peatlands.
As official partners of Forest Carbon, we are joining forces with companies such as Hello Fresh, HP, TSB and Microsoft.
